tito’s boys faced a very driven side sunday night, as they visited one of the club’s waterloo stadia, the benito villamarin. betis always makes us work hard for the money, and it was no different during this weekend’s game. the night was cold and the crowd was loud, but our guys pulled through — two records for messi, and one for the team. not bad at all!
scenes from the tunnel:
leo was one of the last ones to line up in the tunnel, and when he arrived, he went straight to puyi to give him a hug. we don’t often see this kind of pda between them, so it was a nice thing to witness.
immediately after this, puyi proceeded to give geri some last minute instructions. they looked like an old married couple (read: nagging wife and husband getting a headache)… i think pique was a bit relieved when they were finally called onto the pitch.
the first half was great, but in the second half, betis made us suffer through a tough 45 minutes. our defenders had their zombie moments which gave us some scares — i know i am biased, but i really do notice a difference when puyi’s not there. here’s a quick recap of the highlights –
that pass from iniesta was divine. i love messi’s reaction after his record-breaking goal. in that split second when he realized the ball had hit the net and he had surpassed muller’s 85 goals in a calendar year, his first instinct wasn’t to celebrate his achievement — it was to thank iniesta.
in the locker room, the team gave messi an incredible ovation. media savvy that he is, puyi was one of the first to post his congratulations online.
pique was a bit more reserved ..
and of course, a very gracious post from the man of the hour..
news from the injury front:
because three of our guys got the green light before the betis match, the universe decided to add some names to our sicklist.
cesc was subbed off rather early (glad alexis got a lot of minutes, though) for muscle problems, which as of the latest updates will see him on our injured list for 3 to 4 weeks. at least it is nearly the winter break, and he won’t miss that many games. puyi was subbed off at the half, but only as a precaution because of some discomfort behind his knee/thigh. hopefully, it’s nothing serious.
till our next game!
