the universe gave us cules an early holiday present yesterday… actually, we got 3 major presents and several minor ones. first, chelsea suffered a painful defeat to corinthians, and thus will not inherit the club world cup badge from us. second, real madrid drew… at home… against espanyol… another bitter rival in the relegation zone. third, we won at home against second-placers atleti and widened the gap to the top of the table. and we didn’t simply win — we triumphed in spectacular fashion against a strong side. that’s 46 out of 48 possible points, undefeated since the start of the season. slow clap for tito, and thunderous applause for our mighty warriors.
this match was all hyped up in the press as la pulga vs el tigre, but only one beast in the animal kingdom was important to me — el tiburon :) puyi was rested during the previous game, so i was looking forward to him playing the whole match today. thankfully, the mister obliged.
tito chose VV, adriano, pique, puyi, jordi, busi, xavi, iniesta, pedro, alexis and messi as his starting eleven, and later on subbed in thiago, villa and dani.
the first half hour was tense, to say the least. i was screaming like a madwoman when falcao drew first blood (the game was shown at 4am here, so yes, “madwoman” was a pretty accurate description). do i miss clean sheets? yes, but mostly because i want marca to cringe while giving VV the zamora. but having teams score against us is ok too, as long as we win in the end. i like being on the edge of my seat with suspense, watching tito’s death stare and waiting for the rush of adrenaline when we eventually equalize. i love seeing the fire ignite in our players. it would be nice if that fire were ablaze from kickoff, but we can’t have everything.
messi scored another brace today. kid can’t help it. that’s 90 goals this year… so far. ALIEN. i hope he’ll forgive me for focusing on the other two goals from the game — adriano’s and busi’s.
words aren’t enough to describe how happy i am for these two — they’ve either been overlooked or maligned for the most part, especially with the foreign press. but last night, they outshone everyone. messi was overshadowed, and falcao was a mere afterthought. those goals were slick and hardcore and took some real guts to attempt. i’m glad they’re (finally?) getting much deserved recognition for their impeccable work. next year — MascheGOL?
today, after pilates, puyi faced the press and (as usual) gave very good and diplomatic answers. before the end of his career, i’d like him to have a “p*to amo” moment, but media-savvy puyi is fine for now :) salient points — renewal talks going well, wants to play until he’s 40; all praises for song and busi; doesn’t regret #wertgonya #somescola and would do it again in defense of catalan culture.
such a charismatic man.
today is also the boys’ christmas party. dani and the gang send their greetings🙂
